An experienced researcher and scientist, he has contributed to the geological exploration and interpretation of Canada. From the outset of his career he was fascinated by the Arctic and by the study of the polar continental shelf. A specialist in geomorphology whose expertise is recognized throughout Canada, he has directed numerous theses and guided many students to undertake important research. For some years he has chaired various committees responsible for awarding grants to researchers. He is the recipient of many honours, both in Canada and in Europe.
