He has been largely responsible for leading Canadians into the modern age of computing. He established the first department of computer science in Canada at the University of Toronto more than thirty years ago. Because of his expertise he has been a consultant to government and industry and has contributed immeasurably to the understanding and development of information technology in the academic community.
