Beginning as a geologist and engineer, he joined Imperial Oil some forty-five years ago and rose to the positions of Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board. Active in many professional organizations from his base in Toronto he has also made a major contribution to the Duke of Edinburgh's Commonwealth Study Conferences and was the main force behind the Fifth Commonwealth Study Conference, held in Canada in 1980.
