He has made his mark in many ways. Working as a lawyer, he became an expert in international development. The considerable knowledge he gained in Africa as a regional director of new branches of the International Development Research Centre later enabled him to advise this agency on reshaping its policies. Most recently, he took on negotiation and mediation roles in several of Canada's major Aboriginal land claims cases. He has also strengthened awareness of Québec's historical and cultural heritage through his involvement in many of the city's restoration projects.
