Following a military career, he went on to distinguish himself as the head of one of Canada's largest retail chains. His advice and expertise were often sought during his business career, by organizations like the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Toronto and the Business Council on National Issues. He was also Chair of the Retail Council of Canada and Junior Achievement of Canada. In retirement, he has volunteered for many civic ventures and fund-raising activities, giving his time to the Wellesley Hospital, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada and the Sir Edmund Hillary Foundation, among several other professional and charitable organizations.
