He is one of the visionaries who have promoted the concept of lifelong learning. As Director of the Department of University Extension at the University of British Columbia in the 1950s and µ60s, he helped champion the role of post-secondary institutions in preparing adults for ongoing technological and societal changes. Governments in Asia and Africa have sought his advice on continuing education and population planning. Now retired, he continues to pursue his involvement in the education field by financing bursaries for adult students in need.
