A pillar of the community in St. John's, she has spent her lifetime in service to others. She is an exemplary volunteer and is especially known for her work with the Canadian Cancer Society, in particular as a member of the national Board of Directors. Devoted to this institution for the last 50 years, she implemented its first daffodil campaign in Newfoundland and Labrador in 1970. She has also served as a volunteer with other health and youth organizations, including the Newfoundland Medical Board and the Forum for Young Canadians.
