A Toronto scholar, she was at the vanguard of the developing science of bioethics in our country. Having assisted with the organization of one of the first Canadian conferences on bioethical issues associated with new reproductive technologies, she created a contemporary model for other disciplines involving ethical concerns. She was also a founder of the Canadian Bioethics Society and a charter member of the National Council in Bioethics in Human Research, which have enhanced Canada's reputation with health professionals worldwide.
