He came from Britain to Canada for the inauguration of the Stratford Festival in 1953. Since then, he has worked at the Festival for more than twenty seasons, and has acted and directed for every major theatre company in Canada. His versatile talent has also been evident in both domestic and foreign films, as well as television and radio. In 1954, he founded the Canadian Players, an organization that brings professional theatre to smaller towns across the country. A great advocate of Canadian theatre, he is highly respected as a mentor to other performers.
