The first Canadian to serve as president of the American College of Psychiatrists, she is also, as president of the Canadian Psychiatric Association, the first woman to head a medical specialist association in this country. Through her involvement in professional organizations, she consistently encourages opportunities for women and students of disadvantaged minorities in higher education.
