A senior research officer at the National Research Council's Atlantic Research Laboratory, he has led its biological chemistry group to a respected position on the international stage. Under his guidance the group successfully identified a toxin in mussels that caused a 1987 health crisis. This, in turn, provided a means of monitoring or preventing future problems.
