Chad Gaffield’s leadership in interdisciplinary collaboration has transformed the
research landscape in Canada. Professor of Canadian history at the University of
Ottawa, he was a pioneer in the digital humanities movement through his application
of information and communication technologies to historical scholarship. Former
president of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, he has had an
ongoing impact on the Council’s position as a leading funding agency in Canada.
He currently serves as the president-elect of the Royal Society of Canada.
