During his distinguished career as a fisheries scientist, he combined scholarly and prolific research work with extensive administrative involvement in academic committees at the University of British Columbia. He is widely recognized for his technical expertise and has given exemplary service to innumerable organizations concerned with resource management, fish stocks and environmental conservation, including the B.C. Conservation Foundation.
