A pivotal figure in the Canadian arts community for more than thirty years, he has distinguished himself as a playwright, producer and administrator. With his gift for putting together ideas, resources and people, he helped build Canada's performing arts infrastructure and its key elements, including the regional theatre system that began with the Manitoba Theatre Centre. He also encouraged such innovations as the subscription approach to audience building and the growth of municipal funding through the Arts and the Cities program.
