A pioneer in the field of kidney research, he was instrumental in setting up Canada's second kidney transplant centre in Saskatoon. He has made exceptional contributions to clinical and organized medicine, helping to improve the quality of patient care and playing an active role in public discussion of medical policy and economics. Long active in health care administration, he served as president of both the Saskatchewan and Canadian medical associations.
