He is a well-known and respected artist who has made a major contribution to the development of the fine arts in Canada. A retired Art Professor at the University of British Columbia, he has had a great influence on the careers of many students and enriched the arts community through his support and encouragement of young talent as a founder and patron of the Artists for Kids Trust.
