As one of Canada's foremost leaders in health administration and community medicine, he has had a long and distinguished career as a physician, professor and administrator, culminating as President of the University of Alberta Hospitals. He also laid the groundwork for the Northern Alberta Children's Hospital and the Walter C. McKenzie Health Sciences Centre. He has given selflessly of his time and energy to numerous task forces and committees related to the delivery of health care, while at the same time providing leadership in community affairs in Alberta through a variety of organizations.
