An activist who has participated in deliberations on Native rights and self-government, he has been a catalyst in establishing organizations concerned with social and economic issues in Northern Quebec. As the author of an encyclopedia of ancestral customs, written in Inuktitut, and of a comprehensive Inuktitut dictionary, he has contributed significantly to the preservation of traditional Inuit language and culture.
