Former Deputy Minister of Social Services for the province of Nova Scotia, he has been concerned with public, family and child welfare for more than fifty years. A pioneer of social reform, he has played a leadership role in a number of organizations, notably as a founding board member of the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission and as a supporter of Dalhousie University's Maritime School of Social Work. For the last decade, he has continued to serve the public as an advocate for senior citizens.
