A long-time District Nurse, she acted as the sole medical officer for the St. Mary's Bay area of Newfoundland for many years, responsible for caring for the medical, and often emotional, needs of the people. She met the challenges presented by the Depression years, when life was especially difficult for those in isolated communities, going far beyond the call of duty to help those most in need.
