He is one of the nation's ambassadors of country music, a member of Canada's Country Music Hall of Fame and a co-founder of the first Canadian country music association, the Academy of Country Music Entertainment. For more than thirty years, he and his band, "Wild Rose Country", have entertained audiences around the globe, often performing voluntarily or donating their services to charity.
