A leader in Canadian business and philanthropy, he guided the Harlequin publishing company from its early days as a reprinter to its current status as one of the world's largest paperback publishers. Among the many cultural, educational and benevolent organizations he has supported are the Toronto French School, York University, and the National Ballet of Canada.
