As a Professor of the Faculty of Civil Law at the University of Ottawa and Dean of the Faculty for 12 years, he has helped Frenchify common law and has helped establish its connection with civil law. He has also been Canada's Superintendent of Bankruptcy for ten years, during which time he has made an enormous contribution to the renewal of the structures of bankruptcy law.
