Canadian film-maker of international repute, he has directed several Academy Award-winning films in a repertoire that includes dramas, comedies, thrillers and musical comedies. His films explore the human condition and his vision of the social conscience of a country. He is a strong advocate for Canadian film and is the founder of The Canadian Centre for Advanced Film Studies. (This is a promotion within the Order).
