A highly regarded business and community leader in Toronto and Chairman of the Board of Royal Trustco Limited, he has also devoted much of his time to cultural and educational organizations. His philanthropic commitments have been extensive and he has been a major fundraiser for the Duke of Edinburgh's Awards, the Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific and St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto. (This is a promotion within the Order).

He joined the Bank of Montreal in 1953 and became its Executive Vice-president and General Manager of Corporate Banking in 1976. In 1973 he helped to launch Heritage Canada, of which he was a founding director and first chairman; and to him this innovative body owes much of its growth and public acceptance. He has given generously of his time to many other voluntary organizations.
