Namesake of Alberta's David Lander Centre for the treatment of alcoholism and drug abuse, he was one of the first Canadian physicians to recognize and foster the concept of problem drinking as a medical disorder worthy of informed and objective medical care. He has also left his imprint in the areas of Psychosomatic Medicine and Geriatrics, and he embodies a compassionate, humanitarian approach towards the treatment of illness.
