As a professor and administrator, he has devoted much of his professional life to building academic, cultural and economic bridges between Canada and Asia. He was instrumental in establishing Canadian studies programs in Japanese universities and in designing a successful plan to draw Asian students to study in this country. A former president of the Asia-Pacific Foundation of Canada, he is currently a consultant who continues to strengthen the ties between these two parts of the world.
