President emeritus of the University of Regina, he has been an outstanding leader not only in education but also in business and native issues. He holds numerous directorships and is involved with such diverse organizations as the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research, the Council for Canadian Unity, the Canadian Polar Commission and the Canadian Museum of Nature.
