Professor Emeritus at York University, she has acted as an intermediary between academia and government and has assumed the role of a leading analyst in ethnic relations and multiculturalism. She served with distinction, for over ten years, as the Chairman of the Canadian Ethnic Studies Advisory Committee on Multicultural issues and played an integral part in the formulation of Canada's federal policy in this area.
