One of the founders of the modern labour movement in Canada, he built trade unionism from the ground up in Canada's petrochemical industry and was a major force in the development of the Energy and Chemical Workers Union. Through his dedication and hard work, he has won improved health and safety conditions and job security, not only for Canadian wage and salary earners, but also for the six-million member International Federation of Chemical, Energy and General Workers' Union.
