After years of traveling over and surveying virtually all of the land along the northern edge of the Canadian Shield, Dr. Thorsteinsson prepared the first detailed geological maps of over 200,000 square miles in the Arctic islands. During his versatile career he also collected fossils which have furthered the study of paleontology, researched the age of the Haughton Astrobleme and retrieved records and artifacts left by the early Arctic explorers.
