He has had an impressive career in journalism, as a reporter, editor, European correspondent and political columnist. For many years he wrote deftly on national political affairs in The Globe and Mail, and later as a columnist with Maclean's magazine. Author of several books, he was honoured with the Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour. A former director of the School of Journalism at King's College, Halifax, he is admired and respected by his peers. He has contributed greatly to the development of journalism in Canada and is a role model for aspiring journalists.
