He has made one of the most important contributions in decades to groundwater science. Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Waterloo, he developed a new and cost-effective process for cleansing contaminated groundwater using granular iron. Awarded the Industrial Research Chair in groundwater remediation from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada in 1997, he has been a member of numerous national and international committees. Beyond his professional commitments, he has given unstinting personal support to the Guelph Youth Music Centre.
