- Awarded on: May 30, 2001
- Invested on: October 17, 2001
He began coaching junior hockey in the 1930s, leading several teams to championship victories and launching the careers of many professional players. Determined to give youth living in remote areas the opportunity to experience the joy of sport, as Recreation Director, he organized various leagues and tournaments. If a team needed money, he raised the funds and his front porch became a collection depot for spare equipment, left by others for him to put to good use. His name resonates throughout communities in northern Ontario and symbolizes voluntarism, fair play and sportsmanship.
