She has had a profound impact on the academic and industrial spheres. She was the first incumbent of the Dofasco Chair in Advanced Steel Processing at the University of British Columbia. Former director of the University's Centre for Metallurgical Process Engineering, she is currently the highly regarded vice-president of research. Her work on improved methods of steel production has resulted in technology that is used worldwide. In addition, she has given generously of her time, serving in numerous leadership roles, notably as the first woman president of Canada's Metallurgical Society.
