He participated in virtually every vascular surgery innovation in Manitoba in the past three decades and helped to establish this specialty in Canada. As Head of Surgery and a professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Manitoba and Surgeon-in-Chief at the Health Sciences Centre, he set the standard for surgical care in Manitoba. His emphasis on broad-based training for rural surgeons and his enthusiasm for rural practice contributed to the strong provincial network of secondary surgical centres. He has volunteered his leadership to many professional associations and continues as Chief Medical Consultant to Manitoba Health.
