For decades, this businessman has given his time to help improve patient care and prevent illness. A catalyst for the establishment of medicare in Saskatchewan, Jack Shapiro has helped lead countless health care organizations in Ontario, including the Toronto Board of Health and Cancer Care Ontario. Instrumental in setting up the Toronto Cancer Prevention Coalition, he also helped establish community advisory committees at local hospitals, ensuring public input into decisions affecting patients. His strong social conscience is also reflected in his work with many human rights and arts organizations.
