Throughout his long association with the Salvation Army he has exercised leadership in its religious and humanitarian affairs. The author of the official history of the Army in Canada, he has also been involved in its international centenary celebrations. From 1977 until his recent retirement he was world leader of the Army with headquarters in London. He has devoted himself to the fight against world poverty.
