Officer of the Order of Canada
- Awarded on: December 20, 1982
- Invested on: July 24, 1983
From the age of fifteen, when he first learned of the possible adventures of movie-cameramen, until his retirement in the early fifties, Mr. Borradaile traveled the world as a cinematographer, over the years acquiring a reputation as a leader in the field. Among his many "firsts" are the overseas use of sound camera equipment and the on-location use of lead actors, but it was the consistent quality of his work that won him two Academy Awards and several more nominations. Recruited for his vast experience by the embryonic National Film Board, Mr. Borradaile contributed much to that organization's rapidly-earned reputation for quality, making an outstanding contribution to one of its finest accomplishments, "Royal Journey" in 1951. Since his retirement he has remained involved with the industry on the west coast, particularly in Vancouver.
