Anselme Chiasson worked for more than 60 years to promote Acadian history and culture. Through his research and writings on traditional stories, legends, songs and customs, he contributed to the preservation of folklore. His publications Contes de ChÚticamp and Anna Malenfant : gloire de l'Acadie et du Canada, among others, have added to the richness of Acadian heritage. Possessed of a generous spirit, he was a cherished mentor and inspiration to numerous colleagues, students and fellow Acadians. His many local, national and international contributions earned him several awards and honours, notably the Marius Barbeau Medal from the Folklore Studies Association of Canada. This is a promotion within the Order.
