Robert Evans is one of the world's leading health economists. A distinguished scholar, he has conducted groundbreaking comparative studies of various health care systems and funding strategies. His book on the subject, Strained Mercy: The Economics of Canadian Health Care, is considered a classic. As the founding director of the Program in Population Health at the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research, he also made an enormous contribution to our understanding of the socio-economic determinants of health. His work has helped to shape policy in Canada and his insight has been sought by governments and health agencies internationally.
