Recognizing, long before others, the importance of the culture and art of the Indians of the Northwest Coast, she preserved their most precious artifacts, ceremonial and art objects for posterity, thus single-handedly amassing what would become almost the entire collection of the present Museum of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia. Through her studies, her collections and her eminent publications on the subject, she has helped the Native people regain pride in their culture.
