Born in Calgary and trained in chemical engineering and business administration, he entered the oil business in his city, rising to Senior Vice-President of Petrofina Canada; and he has recently retired as Deputy Chairman of Petro Canada. Over the years he has devoted much fruitful effort to the Devonian Group of Charitable Foundations, the Glenbow Alberta Institute, the Calgary Heritage Park and Zoo and Heritage Canada.
