At Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar from Saskatchewan he won the Vinerian Scholarship for highest standing in the BCL degree. He then taught at Saskatchewan and Dalhousie Universities before his appointment as the first Dean of Law at Queen's where, under his leadership, the new faculty advanced to the forefront of Canadian law schools. His teaching and publications have made him a much sought-after adviser on judicial and constitutional matters.
