A Rhodes Scholar from McMaster University, Allan Leal studied law at Osgoode Hall and Harvard. After his years of teaching at Osgoode, he served as chairman of the Ontario Law Reform Commission. Later, as Deputy Attorney General of Ontario, he fostered new legislation such as the Provincial Offences Act and introduced court services in French. Most recently he has advised the Premier on constitutional matters and has been Chancellor of McMaster since 1977.
