Over a period of four decades he rose to the honorary chairmanship of the board of the National Trust Company and chairmanship of the executive committee of the Canada Life Assurance Company. Besides his service to these and other financial organizations he has devoted much time and talent to the Canada Council and to fund- raising for charities and the arts in Toronto.
