Born in Abruzzi province in Italy, he studied pharmacy in the United States before settling in Toronto. There, whilst developing a successful business, he became deeply involved in all aspects of the Italian community. He was a founder of the Federation of Italian Clubs and the Italian Canadian Benevolent Association and President of the National Congress of Italian Canadians. His organizing abilities were demonstrated by the speedy aid to the Friuli earthquake victims.
