Born in Toronto, he was at first a dance-band trumpeter and a grocer. Later he became a pioneer in multicultural broadcasting. He continues, particularly through his radio station which now broadcasts in thirty-two languages, to foster a better understanding among the ethnic groups of the Toronto area.
