      Mayor of Québec, he has played a pivotal role in many social, cultural and philanthropic organizations in the Old Capital. Past-president of the Canadian Festival of the Dramatic Arts, administrator and treasurer of the People's Theatre of Québec, administrator of the Trident Theatre, he has assumed the national presidency of L'Association des scouts du Canada and of the Québec Winter Carnival.

      Jean Pelletier has dedicated his life to public service. As mayor of Québec City, he helped that municipality come into its own. His accomplishments include the addition of Old Québec's historic district to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. He also participated in municipal development, especially as president of the Union des municipalités du Québec. On the national scene, this former Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister played an important political role for many years. Since 2001, he has chaired the Board of Directors of Via Rail Canada ably and effectively, and continues to give his time to a variety of cultural, charitable and social organizations. This is a promotion within the Order.
