After a successful career as a surgeon in the Air Force and private practice in Kelowna, British Columbia, Dr. Rankine plunged into the strenuous and often dangerous life of a surgical volunteer in the remoter parts of the Third World, including South-East Asia, Oceania, Africa and the West Indies. He and his wife support his work by lecturing and collecting surgical instruments.
